Our Activities

The Mapping and Strategy Development Program for Inclusive and Sustainable Blue Economy Implementation is a collaborative initiative aimed at strengthening a fair, participatory, and sustainable model of coastal and marine economic development. In 2024, the program was carried out in three key coastal regions of Central Java—Pekalongan City, Tegal City, and Cilacap Regency—which possess complex socio-ecological dynamics and significant maritime economic potential.

This initiative was developed through collaboration between Bank Jateng, the Central Java Provincial Education Office, the SDGs Center of Universitas Diponegor and the Sustainability Indonesia Foundation. This multi-stakeholder collaboration ensures that the blue economy approach not only focuses on economic growth but also prioritizes social inclusion, youth knowledge empowerment, and coastal ecosystem protection, in line with the principles of a transparent, fair, and sustainable blue economy emphasized in national policies and academic literature.

In 2025, the program expanded into a broader national research and empowerment agenda implemented across six National Fisheries Ports (PPN): PPN Belawan, PPN Bungus, PPN Kendari, PPN Cilacap, PPN Bitung, and PPN Nizam Zachman Jakarta.

The 2025 program represents a strategic collaborative research effort between the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), the SDGs Center of Universitas Diponegoro, and the Sustainability Indonesia Foundation, focusing on strengthening the economic independence of fishing communities through an equitable blue economy approach.

Aligned with Indonesia’s blue economy policy guidelines, the program emphasizes the commitment that the primary subjects of maritime economic development are small-scale fishers, coastal communities, and local actors, and positions marine ecosystem sustainability as the foundation for long-term economic resilience. This program promotes economic independence for fishers and strengthens fisheries-port governance based on principles of sustainability, transparency, and coastal community empowerment.
