Our Activities

The Mangrove Ecosystem Rehabilitation as a Decarbonization Effort to Support Sustainable Development by PT Telkom Indonesia, Tbk (2024–2025) is a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening climate action and restoring coastal ecosystems through the planting of 5,000 mangrove seedlings in Tambakbulusan Village, Demak Regency. Through collaboration between the SDGs Center of Diponegoro University and the Sustainability Indonesia Foundation, the program seeks to increase carbon stock capacity while reducing the vulnerability of coastal areas to abrasion. The mangrove planting is conducted in priority zones with high ecological restoration potential, supported by initial site assessments to ensure the suitability of locations and seedling selection.

Beyond the planting activities, the program includes modeling the projected carbon stock generated from mangrove growth, as well as periodic monitoring and evaluation to assess survival rates, ecological conditions, and the carbon absorption potential of the rehabilitated vegetation. All findings are consolidated into a comprehensive report presented to the Telkom Group as a form of transparency and the company’s commitment to decarbonization and environmental sustainability. Through this initiative, Telkom Indonesia is expected not only to contribute to coastal ecosystem restoration but also to strengthen the achievement of national SDGs targets, particularly those related to climate action, marine ecosystems, and sustainable environmental management.

The Output!

The outputs of the mangrove ecosystem rehabilitation program conducted at Glagah Wangi Beach, Tambakbulusan Village, Demak Regency include the completion of a series of activities beginning with site surveys, seedling preparation, construction of rehabilitation demonstration plots, and the planting of 5,000 mangrove seedlings with a spacing of 0.5–1 meter. The program also produced a designated rehabilitation plot that serves as the planting area and monitoring site for mangrove growth. After two months, monitoring activities successfully recorded growth data, showing an average stem diameter of 1.05 cm, an average height of 50.71 cm, and an average of 6 leaves per seedling. In addition, the program generated an estimate of Above Ground Biomass (AGB) carbon stock of 1.62 C/ha for the rehabilitated area of 0.07 hectares, serving as an initial indicator of the program’s contribution to increasing coastal carbon stocks.
