Sustainability Indonesia Strengthens Collaboration with PT PLN

Semarang, 14 November 2025 – PT PLN Nusantara Power UP Rembang signed a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) with Sustainability Indonesia to continue the Mangrove Rehabilitation Program as part of the Masterplan for Sustainable Coastal Development Based on Marine Sedimentation Management in Morodemak and surrounding coastal areas, Bonang Subdistrict, Demak Regency. The signing took place at Universitas Diponegoro and reflects PLN’s ongoing commitment, through its Environmental and Social Responsibility (TJSL/CSR) program, to support ecosystem restoration and sustainable coastal management initiatives.

Through this collaboration, Sustainability Indonesia serves as the field implementing institution, working closely with academic partners from Universitas Diponegoro and in coordination with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP). This initiative continues the national program aligned with the Sustainable Coastal Development Pilot Project previously launched in Demak.

The program consists of several key activities, including:

  1. Construction of concrete-based wave-breaking structures (APO) to reduce coastal wave energy;
  2. Development of protected demonstration plots (demplot) for mangrove planting behind the APO structures;
  3. Controlled sediment filling within the demplot area to establish a suitable substrate for mangrove growth;
  4. Mangrove planting and systematic monitoring to assess restoration progress and ecological outcomes.

This initiative supports long-term mangrove rehabilitation that aligns with the Masterplan for Sustainable Marine Sedimentation-Based Coastal Development in Morodemak. It aims to enhance shoreline protection, improve environmental resilience, and create sustainable ecological benefits for coastal communities in Demak and surrounding regions.
